Como a inteligência artificial afeta a posição competitiva das organizações de saúde

Objetivo: A transformação digital afetou a sociedade moderna, influenciando a forma como as empresas cooperam e produzem valor. Neste contexto, a Inteligência Artificial desempenha um papel crítico. Este estudo visa explorar o papel da Inteligência Artificial no posicionamento das organizações no mercado e a forma como influencia a competitividade das empresas. Nesta linha, esta pesquisa procura responder à seguinte pergunta: como a IA afeta a vantagem competitiva das organizações de saúde? Desenho/metodologia/abordagem: Para abordar a questão de pesquisa, conduzimos uma análise exploratória usando o método de estudo de caso para investigar um centro de saúde internacional em Dubai. Realizamos nove entrevistas semiestruturadas com o chefe e os membros da equipe de cirurgia robótica do CMC Dubai para compreender em profundidade os componentes da abordagem robótica e como era o funcionamento do serviço antes da introdução desta técnica inovadora. Procuramos também compreender o valor agregado e as vantagens da adoção dessa técnica para a segurança e a satisfação dos pacientes. Além disso, analisamos dados de arquivos e documentação on-line (tais como relatórios do setor, artigos de periódicos e documentos internos) para triangular os dados. Resultados: Os resultados destacam três desfechos principais influenciados pela implementação da IA nos processos organizacionais: resultados clínicos, financeiros e tecnológicos. Este estudo oferecerá insights interessantes e ainda não estudados sobre a implementação de ferramentas de Inteligência Artificial no setor da saúde, e especificamente na cirurgia robótica, esclarecendo as suas contribuições e até que ponto representará uma vantagem competitiva. Esperamos que os resultados contribuam para a compreensão do impacto das ferramentas de IA na qualidade e nos resultados das operações cirúrgicas, enfatizando os benefícios da sua integração na prática cirúrgica. Originalidade/valor: Este estudo apresenta implicações teóricas e práticas interessantes, abrindo novas perspectivas para entender e gerir as ferramentas de IA nos serviços. Esta pesquisa tem suas limitações, mas apresenta noções valiosas para a pesquisa futura. 

Purpose: Digital transformation affected modern society influencing how businesses cooperate and produce value. In this context, Artificial Intelligence plays a critical role. This study aims to explore the role of Artificial Intelligence in organisational positioning within the market, influencing firms' competitiveness. In this vein, this research seeks to respond to the following research question: How does AI impact the competitive advantage of healthcare organizations?. Design/methodology/approach: To tackle the research question, an explorative analysis using the case study method to investigate an international healthcare center in Dubai was conducted. Nine semi-structured interviews were conducted with the head and the members of the robotic surgery team in CMC Dubai to thoroughly understand what the components of the robotic approach are and how the arrangement before the introduction of this innovative technique while shedding light on the added value and the advantages of adopting such technique on both patient safety and patient satisfaction. Additionally, archival data and online documentation (e.g. industry reports, newspaper articles and internal documents) were analyzed to obtain data triangulation. Findings: The results highlight three primary outcomes influenced by implementing AI in organizational processes: clinical, financial and technological outcomes. The study will offer interesting non-studied insights about the implementation of Artificial Intelligence tools in the healthcare sector and specifically robotic surgeries, and to which extent this will contribute and represent a competitive advantage. Results will hopefully insert a brick in the wall of the impact of AI tools on the quality and the results of surgical operations while emphasizing the benefits of integrating AI in surgical practice. Originality/value: This study offers interesting theoretical and practical implications. It opens a new perspective to understand and manage AI tools in service. This research is not without limits providing valuable insights for future research.
